Annual Field Trip to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries:

A One-of-a-Kind Adventure

One of the highlight events each year is the annual field trip to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries, where students embark on an unforgettable journey to learn about the environment, aquatic life, and conservation efforts. This unique experience gives students the opportunity to explore how fish production, angling skills, and habitat conservation all play a vital role in preserving the state’s waterways and recreational activities.

What Students Experience at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries

During the field trip, students engage in several interactive activities that bring these important concepts to life. Here’s what students can expect:

• Fishing at Casting Ponds:  Students practice casting techniques, gaining hands-on experience while learning the basics of fishing.
• Native Fish Feeding Program:  Students learn about local aquatic species and participate in feeding sessions to understand the role of different fish in ecosystems.
• Outdoor Hatchery Tour: Students get a behind-the-scenes look at the fish production process, discovering how hatcheries help sustain fish populations.
• Wetland Trail Walk: Students explore a natural wetland environment, learning about water ecosystems, plant life, and the importance of wetland conservation.
