Advancing Achievement in Crandall ISD

The Heartland Education Foundation proudly sponsors the expansion and support of the AVID program from middle school through high school in Crandall ISD beginning in 2025-2026.


This investment ensures that students at Heartland Middle School, Central Middle School, and Crandall High School have access to a structured, research-based college and career readiness system designed to prepare them for long-term success.


AVID — Advancement Via Individual Determination — is a nationally recognized program focused on closing opportunity gaps and equipping students with the skills needed to succeed in rigorous coursework and postsecondary pathways.

What is AVID?

AVID supports students who demonstrate academic potential and motivation while benefiting from additional structure and skill development to excel in advanced courses.


The program emphasizes:

  • Organization and time management
  • Focused note-taking strategies
  • Critical reading and analytical writing
  • Inquiry-Based learning
  • Collaboration and communication
  • Academic goal setting and planning


Through the AVID elective course, students learn strategies that prepare them for success in Pre-AP, Advanced Placement (AP), and dual credit coursework while building a strong foundation for college and career readiness.

AVID in Crandall ISD

Crandall ISD implements AVID at:


  • Heartland Middle School
  • Central Middle School
  • Crandall Highschool


At the middle school level, students begin developing foundational academic habits and learning how to navigate challenging coursework. They explore college and career pathways while strengthening organization, study skills, and leadership abilities.


At the high school level, AVID students continue to build their academic profile through enrollment in advanced courses, structured tutorial sessions, college exploration activities, scholarship research, and postsecondary planning.
